Anúna is a cultural phenomenon. Building on the ground breaking work of The Chieftains’ visit to China in 1983 and the incredible success of Clannad, they brought Celtic music to the attention of the world.
The group was created in 1987 by Michael McGlynn to promote Irish music. They specialised in ancient works, many of which were unknown to the general public. In the early years it was not uncommon to see Elvis Costello or members of U2 in the audience. They began to attain a cult status, expressing the rapidly advancing movement of Ireland to the centre of the world stage.
In 1995 they were part of the world-renowned show Riverdance. From Radio City New York to a record-breaking run in the Apollo Theatre in Hammersmith, they represented all that was honest and elegant in Ireland. They spent 18 weeks at No.1 in the Irish charts and were at the top of the charts all over the world throughout the 1990’s.
In 1996 they left the show and continued to make albums for over a decade, culminating in their nomination for a Classical Brit award for the album Deep Dead Blue.
In 2006 they recorded the DVD/CD Celtic Origins which went to no.1 in the Nielsen Soundscan for World Music in the USA and was carried on 220 PBS stations across the continent. A nine week tour of 52 cities followed.
In 2008 they made a second TV special for PBS Christmas Memories. They achieved 80% coverage and peaked on Billboard’s Hot 100 albums at no.95.
Anúna has toured all over the world since then, including China, Japan and all over Europe. Three more critically acclaimed albums later they remain at the forefront of Irish music.
Over the years they have collaborated with Elvis Costello, Barry Manilow, Clannad, The Chieftains, The Wiggles, Sting, Sinead O’Connor and many more.
Their most famous alumnus Hozier topped the charts in the USA and all over the world in 2014 after four years in the group. Anúna has accounted for no less than three of the singers that took the world by storm with the hit show Celtic Woman and has continued to provide lead singers for Riverdance and Lord of the Dance for over two decades. Their unique style and the quality or their performances have put them at the highest end of the industry. They have performed for Bono, U2, Coldplay, George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bill Gates, Colin Farrell, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Seamus Heaney,
